If you have been banned from a Wireplay server and don't know why the following frequently asked questions may explain why. If you still do not understand why then speak to the Community Liaison for the game you were banned from.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why was I banned?
First things first, you will not have been banned for no reason. There is always a reason. The first thing you should do if you do not know why you have been banned is to check this ban database. The bans are displayed with the most recent at the top.
You can also use the search box to search for your Unique ID, such as your Steam ID in Half-Life, or by your IP address for Quake III. You can also search on your name.
Reasons for bans should be fairly obvious. Cheating on all games is forbidden, and will result in a ban from the entire of Wireplay. Killing team mates on team based games will get you a small ban. Abuse of any kind if not tolerated, including but not limited to; racism, sexism, adminism. Spamming in chat is another irritating thing and is likely to get you kicked.
Each game has their own set of rules, if you are unsure what they are you should check the Wireplay website for a code of conduct. If you are still confused, then ask for help in #wireplay on Quakenet (you will need an IRC client such as mIRC).
If your ban doesn't appear on the database this is usually due to one of two reasons:
- The admin hasn't got round to logging the incident
- You were banned automatically by server side software
That's not fair!
It probably is.
Wireplay is a gaming community. The idea is to play games and have fun. Disruptive players will be removed to allow other people to continue to have fun.
Each game will have their own set of guidelines that their admins will follow when banning players. Often for minor offences a small ban is placed, if the player continues to disrupt games after the ban has been removed then a longer ban is made, and so on and so forth until a permanent ban is in place.
Think of the other players before saying it's not fair. Would you like the same thing done to you?
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" - Matthew 7:12 (the Bible)
How do I get it removed?
We do NOT unban cheats. No matter what the reason, or excuse is. Cheating is wrong, and has caused so much trouble in multiplayer gaming that is not tolerated at Wireplay. Do not even bother asking as you will not be unbanned.
If you believe that your ban is wrong and it should be removed then your first port-of-call is to contact that admin who banned you. Admins can be contacted through #wireplay on Quakenet.
You will need to present your case to the admin and explain why they misunderstood what you did and gave you a ban. If you don't get a response from anybody in the room then you will have to wait. Admins do have lives of their own so they will not always be sitting infront of their IRC client.
Be polite, shouting (writing in CAPS), and being abusive will not get you anywhere. Don't think that having-a-go at the admins will get your ban removed, it's counter-productive and will probably receive you a larger ban on the servers and a ban from the IRC channel. Admins are people and they do not take kindly to abuse, do not taunt their power.
If the admin who banned you did not remove you and you are still convinced that you should be then speak to the Community Liason. Then ask to speak to a Community Manager in #wireplay.
If you have been permanently banned, you have 30 days from the date of the ban to contest it.
Please note: No bans will or can be removed from the database. Once a ban has been placed it cannot be not-done, only reduced. Do not ask for the record to be struck as it is not possible.
Other people do it
Unfortunately admins cannot be on every server all the time. Sometimes people get away with breaking the rules, this is a fact of gaming and you will have to face it.
If you spot somebody breaking the rules, or disrupting the game then you can help getting them removed from play by recording a demo or the game, or taking screen shots and sending them to a game admin.
You can also request an admin's help from their IRC channel, seek advice in #wireplay for game specific rooms.
